Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Employment and Training (E&T) programs help recipients become self-sufficient through employment and training activities. SNAP E&T activities aim to increase work experience and skills, so individuals can work towards a career path. SNAP E&T is a voluntary program that can help SNAP recipients meet work activity requirements.
The SNAP E&T program has components intended to help participants find and retain employment; increase household income; reduce reliance on public assistance; and improve other measures of household well-being. CJFS SNAP E&T components include:
- Job Search Training: Participants learn behaviors for successful job seeking, including identifying skills/interests, obtaining interviews, updating resumes, interviewing skills and developing good work habits.
- Supervised Job Search: Participants are trained in strategies and skills to help with obtaining high quality employment.
- Education: Based on education function level, participants work through an individual learning plan to improve basic skills and literacy.
- Workfare: Participants learn new skills or improve existing skills with opportunities to work in jobs that improve their employability through training and work experience.
- Work Experience: Participants gain general skills, knowledge and work habits by working with public or private employers.
- Job Retention: Participants receive services to increase the likelihood of continued employment, satisfactory job performance and increased earnings over time.
