Prevention and Family ResourcesWhen a child must be removed from their home, placing them with a safe and loving relative, or kin, is the next best option. DCFS searches for, trains, and supports kinship caregivers to provide the best outcomes for children.
Kinship CareEvery child needs family. When a child comes into DCFS custody the agency needs kinship, foster, and adoptive families to provide safety, permanency and well-being. The agency recruits, trains, and supports caregivers to help our children.

Family Therapy and Support Services
Children and families who have experienced trauma can benefit from targeted services to help them heal. DCFS can provide therapy and other supports to help families who are involved with the agency remain together or reunite safety.
Teens in foster care and young adults aging out of foster care need special support as they transition to independence. Financial, medical, education resources, mentoring and more are available for young people who have experienced foster care.
